FMIG Constitution
The current incarnation of the Dalhousie Family Medicine
Interest Group (FMIG) started in November 2004, when
three members of the class of 2005 attended the College
of Family Physicians of Canada Family Medicine Forum
in Toronto (FMF). During the FMF there were several inspiring
sessions led by students at other schools who were successfully
running FMIGs. These groups had done many wonderful things,
such as organizing skills nights, hosting speaker series,
developing mentorship programs, facilitating change thorough
advocacy and even lobbying successfully for curriculum
change. The three members of the class of 2005, Sarah-Jane
Cook, Amy Mallory and Elizabeth Moeller, were inspired
by the success of groups at other schools and their desire
to promote family medicine as a career choice. As a result,
they decided to resurrect the Dalhousie FMIG. With much
help and guidance from Dr. Cathy MacLean, the first full
FMIG meeting was held in February 2005 and the group
has been thriving ever since.
